FOUNDING PRINCIPLES Our company name, Vitruvian Custom Homes, was inspired by a Roman architect named Marcus Vitruvius Pollo.  In Ancient Greek, the word “Architect” is literally translated as“master builder”.  In Greek and Roman times, architects often performed all duties of modern design teams, including engineering, design, architecture and construction.   Vitruvius was one such ancient architect, who wrote a book on architecture giving him the title of “father of architecture” in some academic circles.  In this book, Vitruvius highlights three qualities that every structure should have:

  1. long-lasting
  2. functional
  3. beautiful

He also believed that the best designs were imitations of nature, constantly looking to the natural world to perfect design and construction.

We continue to be inspired by Vitruvius’ work, and utilize these values to guide our daily work activities.  We believe that each unique project should embody the Vitruvian principles of endurance, functionality and aesthetics.  Through superior craftsmanship, outstanding communication, strong project oversight , fiscal management and a keen attention to details, each Vitruvian custom home project  transcends the mundane, and is truly a fusion of art, innovation and tradition.

ABOUT THE OWNERS
Richard Miller | Project Management & Supervision
When Richard was 12 years old, he started his first business by running an advertisement in his community paper for a bike fix-it shop.  Over the course of two years, he worked on over 150 bikes and made over$2,000.  This experience also sparked his life-long passion in building and construction.  The bike shop was housed in an old barn needing much attention, and when business was slow Richard would design and build shelves, benches and other projects.  This passion was spurred on by Richard’s work with the National Park Service designing and building back-country trails and historic structure renovations.  Richard has over 18 years of professional construction experience and over 12 of project management.  Coming a long way from building benches in a barn, one of his most prominent residential home construction projects was for the Scripps Family.  Today, this passion of building structures and managing projects has grown into large-scale, high-end residential construction helping people to achieve their dreams.

Other Interests include skiing, fishing, camping, exploring future technologies and spending time with family.

Tiffiany Moehring | Finance & Administration

Looking for a way to “round out” a law school application, Tiffiany joined a program that trained people to be community leaders.  After only a few short months in the 2-year program, Tiffiany recharted her life course and become a devoted community organizer.  Organizing community-wide events engaging thousands of people was a rich training ground for learning strong communication skills, financial resourcefulness, meticulous record-keeping and risk management.  Her first fundraiser was a “Fast for Social Change” which raised $1,000 for a community health clinic in El Salvador.   Several hundred events, campaigns and projects later, Tiffiany has helped to develop annual organizational budgets that are over $52 million, has developed public policies for  Denver citizens and has written and implemented internal procedures for staff teams consisting of over 1,800 employees.  She has also written and implemented several strategic plans, and helped to set and achieve organizational goals which focused on operational efficiencies and fiscal responsibility.  Today, Tiffiany, drawing from almost 15 years of administrative and organizational skills, provides the support and infrastructure needed to facilitate homeowners’ realization of their personal visions and goals within well managed budgets.

Other interests include volunteering as a 1st and 3rd grade Destination Imagination coach for her children, following local politics traveling and spending time with family.
